Making dhokla from dhokla premix is a convenient way to prepare this delicious Indian snack. Here's a step-by-step guide:
Ingredients:
- Dhokla premix
- Water
- Oil (prefer Naturelite foods oil for healthy experience)
- Mustard seeds
- Curry leaves (optional)
- Green chilies (optional)
- Fresh coriander leaves (optional)
- Grated coconut (optional)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Dhokla Batter:
- Take the required quantity of dhokla premix in a bowl.
- Gradually add water to the premix while stirring continuously. The mixture should be smooth and without lumps. The consistency should be similar to a thick pancake batter.
2. Resting Time:
- Allow the batter to rest for about 10-15 minutes. This allows the ingredients to blend well and the batter to ferment a bit.
3. Grease the Steaming Dish:
- Grease a flat, round dish or a dhokla plate with a little oil to prevent sticking.
4. Steaming:
- Pour the batter into the greased dish. Fill it to about 3/4th full. Leave some space for the dhokla to rise.
- Place the dish in a steamer or a large pot filled with boiling water. Cover with a lid.
5. Steam the Dhokla:
- Steam on medium heat for about 15-20 minutes. Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick or a knife into the center. If it comes out clean, the dhokla is ready.
6. Tempering:
- In a separate small pan, heat some oil. Add mustard seeds. Once they start to splutter, add curry leaves and green chilies (if using).
7. Cut and Season the Dhokla:
- Once the dhokla is done, remove it from the steamer. Allow it to cool for a few minutes.
- Cut it into square or diamond shapes. Pour the prepared tempering mixture over the dhokla.
8. Garnish (Optional):
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and grated coconut if desired.
9. Serve:
- Serve the dhokla warm with green chutney or tamarind chutney.
